OPNsense Router
The Move
Section titled “The Move”During Phase 1 the edge routing role was handled by the GL.iNet GL-MT3000, while the HP t740 ran Proxmox. In Phase 2:

- OPNsense on the HP t740 as the main gateway and firewall.
- DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) for traffic visibility and application-level control.
- AdGuard for DNS-level ad and tracker filtering across the whole network.
- Native NAT, DHCP, and VLAN-aware routing on the same device that runs Proxmox.
Open Questions
Section titled “Open Questions”- Run OPNsense as a VM on Proxmox (with NIC passthrough) vs. bare metal replacing Proxmox.
- Whether Proxmox remains the host for other workloads or the t740 becomes a dedicated router.
Documentation will be filled in as the migration is executed.
